One of the most striking and significant landscape features of the Tregaron district is the vast peat bog that is Cors Caron. The national and international importanceof this location was acknowledged in 1955 when it was declared a National Nature Reserve. It is presently owned by the Countryside Council for Wales and managed to protect and enhance the peatland habitat and the diverse wildlife that it supports.
All-weather free access for the visitor
is available throughout the
year. A level boardwalk that is suitable for disabled
visitors provides easy access to parts of the raised bog, lagoons,
scrub woodland and a bird viewing hide with information.
Visitors are also free to use the route of the abandoned railway
from the parking bay at Maesllyn to Starta Florida Old
Station. Guided walks can be arranged for which there is a
small charge.
